Desiring to ski a long line in the Tetons during the high pressure last weekend, Amy and I chose a long horizontal line. Starting at the top of the Tram at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort we traveled 23 euphoric miles to Teton Canyon near Grand Targhee Resort in less than 7 hours.
What an excellent report. I'm jealous. I have a couple questions:
ReplyDeleteMuch of this terrain looks fairly moderate. I would be tempted to bring very lightweight gear (pure cross country -- no metal edges). Of course, a lot depends on the snow conditions. Were there more difficult areas that required the beefier gear, or was this just a personal preference?
My second question is very general: Are there good books that cover touring trips in the area? My wife and I like to take Nordic ski vacations. We occasionally ski the groomed, but prefer moderate, relatively easy (ungroomed) touring. I own a few Libkind books, and find them to be very useful, so I was hoping there was something similar for the Wyoming.
This same tour has been done in the spring by Scott McGee using skate skis. There are a few moderately steep bits but depending on snow conditions lighter equipment would be appropriate.
DeleteAs for guide books Tom Turiano's Teton Skiing is a must read - http://www.wildsnow.com/tips/booklist/book_review_turiano.htm
