South Pole Traverse


During the 2015 austral spring, the South Pole Traverse traveled 1035 miles from McMurdo Station to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station to deliver approximately 100,000 gallons of fuel in support of research conducted by the United States Antarctic Program.

  2. Cool! What was the purpose of the boom mounted inner tube on the front of one cat? To probe for crevasse?

    1. The tube protects the antenna for a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) that we use to survey for crevasses.
