Unidentified Subnivean Object

GPR Image of Unidentified Subnivean Object

While surveying the Greenland Ice Sheet, the Strategic Crevasse Avoidance Team unknowingly captured the above radar image of a mysterious metallic object.

The image was captured during a GPR survey conducted by an Autonomous Crevasse Detecting Robot known as Yeti. It wasn't until researchers returned to Thule Air Base and reviewed the radar data that Unidentified Subnivean Object was discovered.

According to CRELL research scientist Dr. Zoe Courville the radar reflection of the unidentified object is from an unknown metal that is incredibly light and "otherworldly." Having alerted the National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs of the discovery, the Strategic Crevasse Avoidance Team is awaiting permission to return to the ice sheet and conduct further investigations.

Similar objects have been discovered by Russian researchers in Antarctica and by Swedish scientist in the Baltic Sea.
